TEXAS Grant (Renewal only)
As of Fall 2014, public community colleges, public technical institutes, and public state colleges will no longer be able to make Initial Year (IY) TEXAS Grant awards to students.
Program Purpose:
The Texas Legislature established the TEXAS (Towards EXcellence, Access and Success) Grant to make sure that well-prepared high school graduates with financial need could go to college. The TEXAS Grant was created by the 75th Legislature and became operational in Fall 1999. The TEXAS Grant Program is administered by the Coordinating Board and provides funding for eligible students to continue their education beyond high-school.
To receive a Renewing Year (RY) award through the TEXAS Grant Program, a student must:
Application Process:
- Students apply when completing and submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or when completing and submitting the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA).
- Funding is limited, therefore, students must submit their application as soon as possible after October 1st and prior to March 1st.
- The financial aid office at each college and university determines eligibility.

Eligibility for this program is determined by the financial aid office at the college of students choice. Students should contact the institutions' financial aid office for additional information on eligibility or availability of funds.
