GBL 1880 PREPARATORY SEMINAR FOR BUSINESS, CULTURE, AND ECONOMICS IN EAST ASIA
This seminar course prepares students academically, interculturally, linguistically and logistically for their short-term global experience. The seminar is offered on campus in the semester prior to the 4 sh global engagement experience. Completion of the pre-departure preparatory seminar is required for participation in GBL 2880: Business, Culture and Economics in East Asia.

While this is an interdisciplinary course, it will have an emphasizes on concepts in economics such on the causes of economic growth in East Asia, the impact of this growth and questions about its continuation. The course also investigates concepts relating to culture through business to better understand differences and similarities across societies within East Asia and between the U.S.
- o Student Learning Outcome - To understand and appreciate cultural differences between the USA and East Asian cultures and how they manifest in daily business practices
- o Student Learning Outcome - To introduce students to the history, culture and politics of East Asia highlighting the similarities and differences, and appreciation of diversity across the different countries
- o Student Learning Outcome - To interact and effectively communicate not just with each other but also in the context of traveling around, given a different cultural backdrop.
