GBL 1680 PREPARATORY SEMINAR FOR COSTA RICA UNPLUGGED: SUSTAINABLE ECOTOURISM
This course prepares for the Winter Term Costa Rica Unplugged: Sustainable Ecotourism course. The course includes readings on ecology, policy, geography, and culture of Costa Rica. In addition, students prepare for near-peer mutual-mentoring that they will experience during the Winter Term course. The purpose is to build background knowledge prior to the study abroad experience. Students are encouraged to take Spanish classes from the Spanish department or from El Centro prior to the WT course. Goals of the course include increasing environmental awareness and an understanding of the complexities of sustainability, developing knowledge or the commons (nature, community and culture), and being introduced to theories of experiential learning. Completion of the pre-departure preparatory seminar is required for participation in GBL 2680 Costa Rica Unplugged: Sustainable Ecotourism. Application and acceptance required. Additional travel fee is required.
