PHY 2040 PLANETARY ASTRONOMY
Planetary astronomy involves the study of our solar system and other planetary systems. Topics include the Moon, the Sun, planetary motion, planetary formation, planetary geology, extrasolar planets, and life in the universe.
Course Types
Laboratory Science
- Students will describe the processes that formed and shaped surfaces, oceans, and atmospheres of planets
- Students will compare and contrast planets within the solar system; analyze data-based images and plots to understand planetary phenomena
- Students will familiarize themselves with techniques for discovering extrasolar planets and life in the universe
- Students will articulate their knowledge in writing and through oral presentation among an audience of their peers
