ENGL 3203 Science Writing

Introducing students to basic scientific writing, students practice and hone writing skills via class discussion, critical evaluation of scientific journal articles, modeling professional examples, proper referencing, and preparation of an abstract and proposal for a scientific audience. Particular emphasis is placed on conveying the significance of research, outlining aims, and discussing the results for scientific papers and IRB proposals. Classes are highly interactive – encouraging active and open interaction among students – culminating in a well-articulated and researched scientific proposal and oral presentation. Solely a writing course, substantive discussions about scientific methodology or interpretation of results are outside the course’s scope.
