The Department of Special Education offers programs that enhance students’ understanding of the personal, psychological, social, educational, and vocational needs of individuals with disabilities. These programs also strengthen skills in assessment, teaching/intervention, and research. Students engage in advances study and research through coursework, fieldwork, and/or internships. The department is home to the Center for Autism Spectrum Disorder, providing diagnostic and consultation services for autistic individuals.

We offer a master’s degree in applied behavior analysis with an emphasis in autism. We also offer a master’s and doctoral degree in special education. Areas of concentration in special education include: autism, deaf education, early childhood special education, emotional and behavioral disorders, intense interventions, mild interventions, and special education administration. In addition to master’s and doctoral degrees, the department offers graduate certificates in American Sign Language and Deaf Studies, Autism, Disabilities for Post-Secondary Settings with an Emphasis on Autism, and Emotional Behavior Disorders. All graduate coursework is offered online.
