Educational Studies Minor

Educational Studies is an interdisciplinary field that draws upon the tools of the humanities and social sciences to study the array of cultural, economic, historical, political, and social ideas and contexts that inform educational structures, policies, and practices, and shape the educational experiences of individuals and social groups, including along lines of race and ethnicity, gender and sexuality, language and culture, social class, religion, and (dis)ability. The department is committed to fostering a politically and socially conscious stance towards education that enables students to act as informed and vociferous advocates for just social relations and to engage in teaching and learning that is culturally relevant and culturally sustainable. The department does not offer a teacher preparation program but does prepare students to enter graduate teacher preparation programs as well as a range of other areas of professional practice and academic study.
