The English Department gives students the opportunity to study literatures written in English from around the world. We offer a wide range of courses that consider texts and authors in their historical, cultural, and geographical contexts. Our courses emphasize the pleasures of the imagination and seek to develop habits of critical thinking, rigorous analysis, and cogent writing.
The Department offers concentrations in addition to the major: Creative Writing (poetry or fiction); World Literature; and Race, Power, Difference.
