ORG 477 Introduction to Conflict Management

This course provides an overview of the theory, practice, techniques, and effectiveness of programs and interventions to manage personal, workplace, organizational, systems, and community conflict. The scope of this course encompasses a broad view of conflict relevant to the study of organizational dynamics and related social interactions.  Students will gain an understanding of how to effectively assess and manage conflict, as well as how constructive conflict management, and even conflict itself, can lead to improvement in one’s personal, family, work, and community life.  Course material will also emphasize one’s conscious use of self in dealing with conflict and its dimensions including power, emotions, styles and tactics, and negotiations.
