Admission to the University

Admission Requirements

The University considers applications for admission on a rolling basis. The Admission Committee reviews applications as soon as all supporting documents have been received. Applicants are encouraged to apply at the beginning of the term prior to which they wish to enroll. While the Office of Admission makes every attempt to accommodate students who apply at any time, applications completed less than one week prior to the beginning of a term may not be reviewed before courses begin.

The University accepts students who have completed their Associate degree (see below) or who have completed at least 90 quarter/60 semester credits from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. The University does not require a minimum GPA for Associate degree completers and does not require scores from any standardized test. Students must be able to legally study in the United States as the university is not now qualified to issue I-20s for international student study authorization.

Students are expected to have completed the Washington State general education requirements at time of admission as these requirements are a condition of Graduation (see Graduation Requirements below): however, deficiencies in these requirements will not preclude admission to WTU. (Students can complete general education requirement deficiencies by taking classes at local community and technical colleges, Western Governors University, or by taking courses at other colleges and universities. Students should review these requirements with their advisors.)

Transfer Admission

When considering a transfer applicant, the Admission Committee looks for documentation that the student's prior academic experiences will provide an adequate foundation for success in college-level coursework taken at WTU. The most important factor considered is the applicant's previous academic record, as evidenced by college transcripts. Students applying with an associate’s degree and/or 90 quarter/60 semester college credits and general education requirements completed will be admitted. WTU strongly encourages transfer students to contact the University early in their academic careers to request information about transfer to the University.

Non-Degree Seeking Student Status Approval

Students who do not plan to seek a degree from WTU may request approval to take undergraduate courses at the University as a non-degree student. The non-degree application is available from the Office of Admission or the campus the student is interested in attending. Non-degree application requirements include:

  • Non-degree application www.washtechu.com/apply
  • Transcript(s) from previous postsecondary institution(s) attended
  • A $50 non-refundable application fee
  • Additional documentation may be requested at the University’s discretion

Admission Appeal Process

Students who have been denied admission to the University may appeal their decision through the Washington Technology University Admissions Appeal Committee, which is comprised of University staff and faculty. Students seeking a successful appeal must submit the following information to be considered:

  • A statement (no longer than 2 pages, double-spaced) detailing the reasons why the Appeal Committee should consider altering the initial admission decision. Students should discuss why they believe they will succeed and should convey any important information related to academic potential not indicated on the transcript(s) submitted for admission.
  • Updated transcript(s) detailing any college-level coursework completed since the initial admission decision was rendered, if available.

Non-Academic Experiential Learning

Washington Technology University will not accept transfer credits from any institution for non-academic experiential learning.
