Academic Standing for Main Campus Students
Scholastic Probation
Full time students who have an institutional cumulative GPA of less than 2.0 will be placed on Scholastic Probation. Students on Scholastic Probation are required to meet with the Student Success Advisor at the beginning of the semester and complete a Student Success Plan that maps specific requirements for the subsequent semester. This process is simply designed to alert students to academic difficulties in time to help students identify those areas where they may be experiencing problems to determine how to best address them. Getting off Scholastic Probations requires students to raise the cumulative GPA above a 2.0. If a student is on Scholastic Probation and receives a term-GPA above 2.0, but has cumulative institutional GPA below 2.0, the student will remain on Extended Academic Probation.
Scholastic Dismissal
Students who earn a semester GPA of less than 2.0 in two consecutive semesters and have a cumulative institutional GPA of less than 2.0 will be notified that they are on scholastic dismissal and suspended from the University of the Incarnate Word. Notification of scholastic dismissal will be sent from the office of the Associate Provost of Student Success to the student’s official University Cardinal e-mail address. Students who are on scholastic dismissal from the University will be withdrawn from all classes and will not be allowed to register for subsequent semesters. Students who are on Scholastic Dismissal for the first time may appeal to the Associate Provost of Student Success for an additional semester to improve the GPA. If such an appeal is granted, the student must meet with the Student Success Advisor and complete a Student Success Plan prior to registration and will be placed on Waived Withdrawal. If the student is on Waived Withdrawal and does not meet the terms of the Student Success Plan, the student is then placed on Scholastic Dismissal for one academic year, with no appeal.
Students who are required to withdraw from the University due to Scholastic Dismissal may apply for readmission after a minimum of one term of productive activity, preferably academic. Such readmission requires the approval of the Associate Provost of Student Success.
Part-time students who fail to earn a C (2.0) in any six semester hours out of 12 semester hours attempted may be placed on Scholastic Dismissal and required to withdraw from the University. Part-time students enrolled for at least six credits and with a GPA below 2.0 may be placed on Scholastic Probation.
