Bachelor of Science in Mathematics
The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics degree program shapes mathematically minded leaders to guide businesses, organizations and government agencies through insight, logic and analytical skills.The 120 credit hour degree program emphasizes concepts, procedures, and connections. All courses develop reasoning abilities along with skills in precise communication of concepts. Problem solving is addressed throughout the program.
The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics program requires 24 hours of core mathematics courses that include advanced calculus, higher mathematics, and theory. Students may choose from a wide array of mathematics courses to fulfill the 24 hours of required electives.
Students are provided with a solid mathematical foundation that prepares them for advanced graduate study or careers in education, businesses, industrial or other professional fields and practical skills and methods to deal with realistic problems in those fields. Students are strongly supported through the program by faculty who provide mentoring and guidance, and through the Math Tutoring Lab, which offers individual guidance and help through the subject’s challenges.

Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Core Coursework
Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Elective Coursework
Mathematics electives must be drawn from courses at the 2000 level or higher, including 12 credit hours at the 3000 level or higher.
Computer Language Coursework
MATH 2340/ENGR 2340 is recommended to meet this requirement. Other courses in VB, C/C++, Java or other high level languages offered by the CIS department can also be used to meet this requirement.
Calculus Based Physics With Lab
PHYS 2305 / PHYS 2105 or PHYS 2306 / PHYS 2106 can be used to meet this requirement.
Both the BA and the BS in mathematics require a minor in an approved discipline or an approved interdisciplinary minor.
Minor or Interdisciplinary Concentration
An approved minor or interdisciplinary concentration is required as part of the Bachelor of Science in Mathematics degree program.
General Elective Coursework
Electives must be completed as needed to fulfill the 120 credit hour program requirement.
