INDR 8358 Generating New Knowledge in Qualitative Research Processes

This course addresses three important issues regarding quality and depth that arise in field research of emerging scholars: 1) Understanding how research pathways unfold from early design to deep theorization as a coherent process and not disjointed steps; 2) How researchers go well beyond codes, categories, and themes to discover deeper patterns, meanings, and through lines through high-level qualitative data analysis; and, 3) How researchers move from deep understanding of the “empirical” world to the selection and use of exploratory theories and conceptual and theoretical frameworks to generate dialogue with their high-level data analyses and understand the value of theory in generating new knowledge in different research phases.
