Education Minor

The Education Minor prepares students for teaching certification in Secondary (7-12) and All Level (EC-12) subjects. A student following this course of study will complete the UIW core, coursework in a discipline (teaching field) major, and the Education Minor (pre-professional courses and the professional development sequence). Education Minors may also choose to add the optional minors in Special Education and/or Literacy.

Because this minor includes Texas teaching certification requirements, Education Minors must complete a major in a teaching field discipline. Secondary (7-12) certification options include Biology (Life Science), Chemistry (Physical Science), History, English Language Arts & Reading, and Mathematics. All Level (EC-12) certification options include Art, Kinesiology (Physical Education), Music, Spanish, and Theatre.

Upon successful completion of UIW Teacher Education Program requirements, Texas Education Agency certification requirements, and applicable TExES certification examinations, students are eligible to apply for state teaching certification to teach within their specialization field.
