EDUC 2305 Foundations of Education

Foundations of Education assists students in assessing their interest in becoming a certified classroom teacher as well as acquainting them with professional dispositions and teaching responsibilities. This course introduces the UIW Teacher Education Program and explores professional options. An examination of the historical, philosophical, theoretical, legal, cultural, and ethical foundations of the United States educational systems will be included. This course also introduces culturally responsive teaching and support for diverse and inclusive classrooms. Additionally, the Texas Educator Code of Ethics is studied. Students are encouraged to enroll in this course during their freshman or sophomore year as it is required for admission to the Teacher Education Program. Field-based experiences in assigned classrooms are a requirement of this course. Offered in Fall and Spring.
