Education Minor for Secondary and All-Level Certification
The education minor prepares candidates for secondary certification (6th through 12th grades) or all-level certification (early childhood through 12th grades); depending on the associated teaching field. A student following this course of study will take the UIW core, coursework in a major (teaching field) and the education minor (pre-professional courses, and the professional development sequence). Students pursuing the education minor are also eligible to complete optional minors in special education and/or reading.
Upon successful completion of program requirements and applicable TExES certification examinations, the student will be eligible to apply for state teaching certification to teach within their specialization field(s).
The following teaching fields are available:
English Language Arts/Reading (7-12)*
History (7-12)
Biology/Life Sciences (7-12)
Chemistry or Physics/Physical Sciences (7-12)
Mathematics (7-12)
Art (EC-12)
Music (EC-12)
Physical Education (EC-12)
Spanish (EC-12)
Theatre Arts (EC-12)
*NOTE: Students pursuing English Language Arts/Reading certification must also take EDUC 3337, Developing the Strategic Reader.
