Education Minor for Secondary and All-Level Certification

The education minor prepares candidates for certification at the 7th through 12th grades or early childhood (EC) through 12th grades; depending on the associated teaching field. A student following this course of study will take the UIW general education core, coursework in a major (teaching field) and a minor in Secondary/All-Level Education (pre-professional courses, and the professional development sequence). Students pursuing the Secondary Education minor are also eligible to complete optional minors in special education and/or reading.

Upon successful completion of both the program and applicable TExES certification examinations, the student will be eligible to apply for state certification to teach within their specialization field(s).

Music (EC-12)
Physical Education (EC-12)
Spanish (EC-12)
Theatre Arts (EC-12)

*NOTE: Students pursuing English Language Arts/Reading certification must also take the following reading courses: EDUC 3307, EDUC 3327, and EDUC 3337.
