GEOL 50773 Introduction to Environmental Law

Prerequisites: Major field of study within the College of Science & Engineering with 60 earned hours; or graduate enrollment. Students will be introduced to and will analyze selected federal statutes governing environmental remediation, discharge of pollution, and management of wastes, including the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act, the Endangered Species Act, and others, including the common law (nuisance, trespass, negligence.) Students will be introduced to the American legal system and the role of experts in lawsuits. Students will read and discuss in class statutes, case law, and related materials.
