CHEM 109 Chemistry and Society: General, Organic, and Biochemistry for Public Health

An accelerated survey of chemistry, including atomic and molecular structure, solutions, states of matter; Naming of inorganic and organic compounds; Chemical reactions; Structure and function of the biological molecules of life; Nutrition and metabolism. Emphasis will be placed on learning about chemistry and scientific thinking in practical, relevant contexts. Three hours of lecture and one three-hour laboratory per week. This course is designed for Public Health and Environmental Science-Biology track majors. This course cannot be used as a substitute for CHEM 111 or CHEM 113.
