HIS 11300 World History II - 1500 to Present
An examination of various societies, civilizations, empires, and cultures throughout the nonwestern world from 1500s to the present. The focus is placed on how political, economic, and social developments shaped the conditions, attitudes, and values of these various societies. Subjects discussed in readings and in class include the Ottoman Empire, the Safavid Empire, the Mughal Empire, the Ming Dynasty, the Meiji Restoration, Latin American Revolutions and early political struggles, 19th and 20th century Imperialism in Asia and Africa and the struggles for Independence.
