Program Description:

Accounting is how a company or organization communicated its financial information. It is for this reason many call it the "language of business." Thus, accounting majors learn how to create and maintain a detailed and accurate system that displays the finances of a business. Student study the theory behind accounting and learn how to analyze the financial position of a firm or organization.

Program Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Identify and describe generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), explain how the application of GAAP impacts the recording of financial transactions, and the preparation of financial statements.
  • Apply the steps in the accounting cycle in order to prepare financial statements.
  • Assess the financial condition and operating results of a company, and analyze and interpret financial statements and information to make informed business decisions.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the role that accountants play in business and society.
  • Utilize information technology tools to conduct business effectively and efficiently.
