HIS 19000 Special Topics: History of Baseball

This course provides a history of baseball in the United States with a special emphasis on analyzing the game in the context of American social and cultural history. Readings examine the role of sport in society, baseball’s early and modern history (1840-present), the business of baseball, and biographical sketches of iconic players and managers who represent facets of the American experience.
