ENG 250 Themes in Irish Literature

The course considers literature from Ireland and Northern Ireland written in English. These form a cultural backdrop for the study of works in genres developed in Ireland and other parts of Europe. Five themes shape the sequence of readings: women and men, family, belief, justice, and identity. Coursework will also investigate the complex intertwining of historic invasions, colonization and partition as they are reflected in literary texts.
