Faculty Handbook

A. Attendance Policy for Students

1. Attendance

Students must attend 70% of scheduled class meetings to pass the course. See catalog for details.

2. Instructor Policies

Instructors may impose stricter absence limits in their course syllabi. In their syllabi, instructors of hybrid courses should also articulate how the standard institutional policy applies to their courses. Instructors must maintain student attendance records.

3. Incomplete Grade

When students are unable to successfully complete a course due to unavoidable reasons such as extended illness, follow the incomplete policy in the catalog.

4. Makeup exams and in-class work

Instructors do not have to allow makeup of daily in-class work regardless of excuse. Major assignments and examinations may be made up for doctor-documented illnesses and institutionally-approved absences granted by the appropriate office (i.e. athletic, music, or theatre departments). Students must request a makeup within one week of the absence, or the instructor is not obligated to allow the makeup work. For institutionally approved absences, students must make arrangements with the instructor prior to the absence.

5. Adding a Course

Students may add courses up until the end of the second week. Late registrants are held responsible for all coursework. Instructors are expected to give late registrants reasonable opportunities to catch up on missed coursework.

6. Withdrawing From a Course

Students who wish to drop a course should speak to their instructor and advisor first, then use the form in the student portal. Full withdrawal policies are in the catalog.
