Technical Degree Options

Interested in a Rochester College experience but can’t find that specialized degree you seek?

RC’s Technical and Professional Studies major allows students to incorporate technical training from another institution into a bachelor’s degree. This combination offers students the opportunity to forge connections between disciplines and integrate that knowledge, critical and creative thinking into their chosen career path.

Students may take classes at another institution to complete a technical certificate from an approved institution that carries 24-50 credit hours and can serve as one of your two concentrations in this degree program. Only “official” certificate programs from approved institutions are accepted as part of this major. (Note: up to 11 hours of the certificate program may be used for upper-division requirements, if necessary). It is strongly suggested that you complete the certificate program prior to enrolling at Rochester College because certificate programs change dramatically or are eliminated completely while students complete coursework at RC.

In addition, students may take these technical courses while co-enrolled at both institutions. In such a case, students must be willing to manage scheduling, financial aid, full-time status, and sports eligibility matters while co-enrolled.

While most technical certificate programs are accepted into this major, interested students should meet with the director of the School of Business and Professional Studies to confirm the chosen certificate program.

The following program learning outcomes will be assessed and linked to coursework:

1. CRITICAL THINKING: Professional graduates think critically and synthesize knowledge across disciplines.
2. PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION: Professional graduates effectively communicate ideas and collaborate with others in multidisciplinary settings.
3. CONTEXTUAL THINKING: Professional graduates demonstrate contextual thinking, drawing from multiple perspectives within the fabric of time, culture, and personal experience, giving special attention to the Christian story.
4. PROBLEM-SOLVING and APPLICATION:  Professional graduates discover creative insights to real world problems by applying theory to practice in various settings.
5. PROFESSIONAL and SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Professional graduates articulate a sense of vocation through a unique integration of disciplines that embodies their own personal beliefs, values, attitudes, and skills.
