Associate in Arts Degree
The Associate in Arts (AA) degree shall be awarded upon successful completion of a planned program of 60 college credit hours. Thirty-six (36) credit hours must be earned in general education requirements. Additionally, if the foreign language requirement has not been met in high school, a student may be required to complete eight semester hours (of the same language) of a foreign language. Per Florida Rule 6A-10.04213, prior to the award of an Associate in Arts or Baccalaureate degree, First-Time-In-College students entering a Florida College system institution in the Fall Semester 2018, and thereafter must demonstrate competency in Civic Literacy through one of the following options prior to graduation.
The remaining 16-24 credit hours may consist of any courses in the Catalog and Student Handbook section under "Courses" that are 1000 or 2000 level. A grade of "C" or higher is required for all Gordon Rule courses, general education courses, and foreign language courses, whether they are being used to fulfill program or elective or graduation requirements. At least 15 credit hours must be taken in residency at PHSC. By graduation, a PHSC degree-level grade point average (GPA), as well as a cumulative degree-level GPA, of not less than 2.0 or "C" must be achieved.
A growing number of Associate of Arts (AA) Degree Pathways are also available to students. An AA pathway is a planned course of study that includes courses to satisfy general education requirements as well as suggested electives that support transfer to specific majors at most Florida public universities.
