ENG 2103 World Cinema
This course introduces students to films of renowned directors from around the world, such as Godard (France), Oshuma (Japan), Yimou (China), deSica (Italy), and Imamura (Japan). Some comparative studies will be made to American filmmakers, including Van Sant, Mamet, Scorcese, and Solondz. Emphasis will be on cultural diversity through moral, spiritual, philosophical, and intellectual themes. Because this course may be taken as an alternative to English Composition II, students will be expected to demonstrate competency in writing and research by producing work which is not only grammatically and mechanically correct but which displays effective sentence structure and organization, precise diction, appropriate use of research materials, and proper MLA documentation. This course satisfies the Gordon Rule writing requirement and is an alternative to ENC 1102. A grade of "C" or higher must be attained.
