VET122 Breed Predisposition and Disease Inheritance
This course introduces students to the significant variety of breeds that a veterinary technician will encounter and discusses, in depth, the associated breed-related behaviors, functional anatomy, predispositions, and inherited diseases. Course material will focus on genetic predisposition to diseases and other prevalent disorders in both dogs and cats. Specific breed characteristics and temperaments will also be discussed along with videos and slide presentations of each breed of dog and cat. The successful student will become familiar with numerous breed standards (pedigrees) of dogs, as registered by the American Kennel Club, and cats, as registered by the American Cat Fanciers Association.
