NSG101 Nursing 1
Prepares the student to view persons holistically using Maslow's Human Needs Theory and the nursing process. Students are introduced to the Nurse of the Future Core Competencies for nursing practice. Didactic, laboratory and clinical practice experiences provide the framework for the student to assimmilate the knowledge, skills and behaviors which are considered basic to nursing practice across the lifespan. Evidence based knowledge and sensitivity to age, gender, culture, race, health disparities, socioeconomic status and spirituality are introduced with special consideration given to the older adult. Content draws upon the knowledge from the biophysical and psychological sciences, which are taught concurrently. The Nursing Skills Laboratory is an integral part of learning, providing the student opportunities to observe, practice, plan and demonstrate clinical skills. Correlated clinical experiences are offered in diverse health care settings.
