Undergraduate Education Programs at Manhattanville
Manhattanville University has two pathways for undergraduate students wishing to become a teacher, depending upon the grade level of the students that candidates wish to teach.
Pathway 1: Bachelor of Science (BS)
For those candidates who want to work with pre-school and kindergarten-aged children -- Early Childhood Education (Birth to Grade 2) -- and/or elementary school-aged children -- Childhood Education (Grades 1-6), the School of Education offers the following Bachelor of Science (BS) in Education programs:
- BS in Early Childhood Education
- BS in Childhood Education
- BS in Early Childhood and Childhood Education
Each of these programs allow for one of three possible liberal arts concentrations. These concentrations allow BS in Education programs to fulfill the liberal arts concentrations required by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED). They are:
- English and Writing
- Natural Sciences
- Social and Behavior Sciences

Pathway 2: Combined Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Master's in Adolescence Education
For those candidates who wish to work with middle school or high school aged children (Adolescent Education), Manhattanville offers a set of combined degree programs consisting of a Bachelors degree in the relevant content area (Biology, English, Mathematics, or Social Studies) leading into a Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program in Education. Through this pathway, candidates can begin their Masters program as part of their undergraduate program, by taking up to 15 credits of graduate work as part of their undergraduate program.
Relevant combined degree pathways include:
- BA in Biology + MAT in Adolescent Biology Education
- BA in English + MAT in Adolescent English Education
- BA in Historical Studies + MAT in Adolescent Social Studies Education
- BA in Mathematics + MAT in Adolescent Mathematics
There are additional dual degree Masters of Professional Studies (MPS) programs which combine Adolescent Education with Special Education.

Education Program Requirements
Per New York State Education Department (NYSED) regulations, all students pursuing Education programs must maintain a cumulative minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0.
