SPN 3060 LATIN AMERICAN THEATER

This course is a survey of Latin American theater from an analytical and critical perspective from its origins to the present, while using an appropriate vocabulary. Some topics will include indigenous performance, absurdist, dictatorship, revolution, terror, human rights, violence, memory, women, etc. We will analyze and criticize the work of fifteen playwrights and how they grapple with cultural and political circumstances in their countries. We will also examine some trends of the XXI century. Students will read plays, watch videos, and attend at least one play at Repertorio Español in NYC.
