MUA 3031 Lyric Diction: French & German
This course is the study of International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) in French & German Lyric Diction. We will begin to use IPA skills as a basis for learning and fine-tuning the singing diction of French and German. In-class recitation, singing, and daily listening will be an important aspect of the course to refine vocal production of the unique sounds in French and German Lyric Diction. Students will prepare one song of their choice in each language for solo recitation and critiquing in class, and will sing one additional song for the oral exam. Each unit will have written assignments and up to four written exams. Students at the graduate level will prepare additional reviews of journal articles and monographs.
