BIO 3046 Botany Systematics & Taxonomy

This course is designed to provide the student with a comprehensive approach to the plant kingdom diversity and evolution. The student will gain practical knowledge of plants, as well as an understanding on general aspects of morphology, anatomy, physiology and evolution of the plant kingdom. Plant interrelationships and classification of plants into families will be explained in length, so that the student will become skilled in plant identification, and familiar with taxonomy terminology, as well as terminology applied to scientific research related to botany literature. Digital and online resources will be consulted for the purposes of the class. The course will also address the origins and history of botany, and current and future approaches in the field of botany systematics; such as ethnobotany, economic botany, medicinal botany, and habitat conservation.
