SOC 3110 RACE AND IDEOLOGY

This course builds on a foundational understanding of race and racism by expanding that understanding to an analysis on how racism operates. Social scientists have put forth various conceptualizations of how racial ideology manifests; from fundamental understandings of prejudice to contemporary theories of implicit bias and color-blind racism to interdisciplinary theories of colorism and intersectionality. Through in-depth readings on and discussion of major theories of racism, students will develop a nuanced and advanced understanding of how racial ideology and structure operate and thereby a perspective of how to challenge racism.
