SPN 5017 SPANISH AMERICAN CIV: THE ARTS
Through the use of audio-visual materials, visits to museums, and readings, students explore the development of Latin American civilization through artistic production. The course is divided into three sections: (1) the major pre- Columbian civilizations and the legacy of indigenous populations. (2) The period of conquest and three centuries of colonial administration. (3) The revolutionary period and the efforts made to assert political independence while resolving economic problems. The course is constructed from an interdisciplinary perspective, which emphasizes Latin American art, history, geography, and culture.
