Photography, the first art medium to be fully derived from the scientific and industrial revolutions, lacked the rigid hierarchy which existed in the rest of the art world. It was therefore accessible to women right from the start. This seminar investigates famous female photographers as well as women, virtually unknown today, who operated photographic studios. Students complete a research paper and present an oral report.
