TRIO Student Support Services
Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded TRIO program at Laredo Community College. The goal of TRIO Student Support Services is to provide opportunities for first-generation, low-income, and/or students with disabilities. Areas of support include helping students navigate through college, assisting participants with basic college requirements, and motivating students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education. The SSS objectives are to improve student persistence, good academic standing, and graduation/transfer rates.
The LCC-SSS Program promotes professional and peer-to-peer tutoring and Supplemental Instruction (SI) in the areas of Mathematics, Reading, and English. Other areas of support include: academic advisement, financial aid application assistance, financial literacy, and career workshops. Activities such as exposure to cultural events and academic programs are designed to acquaint students with transferring to four-year institutions, an option not usually available to first-generation students. Students are eligible for Student Support Services if they are a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident. Students must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment at LCC. Also, students must be able to demonstrate a financial need and demonstrate a need for academic support to qualify for Student Support Services.
