PSYD 7117 PROFESSIONAL SEMINAR IIIB: GENDER, ETHNICITY, AND CULTURE IN THE PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE OF SCHOOL AND CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

Proseminar IIIb Gender, Ethnicity, and Culture in the Professional Practice of School and Clinical Psychology is the second course in a three-course series that addresses issues of cultural competence in the practice of psychology. A seminar course designed to assist doctoral psychology trainees in the ongoing process of becoming culturally competent professionals, it offers an opportunity to explore further social constructs related to cultural identity, including race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual identity that were introduced in Proseminar IIIa. In addition, this section of the course will address spirituality/religiosity and how they pertain to psychotherapy practice, and will also address aspects of living with disability, including physical disability and cognitive disabilities. The course uses a variety of active learning methods to encourage participants to explore their own cultural positions, including biases and assumptions that could influence psychological assessment and treatment.
