PSYD 7419 CHILD & ADOLSCENT PSYCHOPATH
Prereq: Matriculation in PSYD program Type of Course: Doctoral Level-Reqd for students in PSYD Schoold Clinical Psychology program This course is an introduction to the interdiscipliniary field of developmental psychopathology. Developmental psychopathology is a paradigm that articulates the role of time and change in childhood disturbances. We will examine this fundamental aspect of chilhood disorders. Students will become familiar with relevant literature concerning the disorders of childhood and adolescents. Furthermore, students will gain mastery in conceptualizing and synthesizing clincal information to formulate an initial clinical diagnosis. In addition to a broad overview of child clincal disorders, we will examine a number of key themes including 1) a developmental perspective which is important for understanding childhood disorders; 2) the role of risk and resilience; and 3) how social, cultural, and economic diversity impacts symptom presentation and prognosis.
