EMT 138 Trauma & Emergency Care I

(Contact Hours: 4.5) Hospital clinic allows the student perspective on how the implications of pre-hospital assessment and interventions on the continuum of care and how EMS integrates with the overall trauma and healthcare systems, especially in the managed care of heart attack and stroke. Emphasis is placed on integration within the interdisciplinary healthcare team and communication models that support patient safety. Students are required to document patient encounters across a spectrum of ages and complaints to meet the requirements of the National Registry of EMTs paramedic competency portfolio as required for exam eligibility. PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of EMT 124 is REQUIRED. Corequisite: EMT 136 and EMT 154.
