Art and Archaeology Major with Art Education Concentration (pre K-12), B.A.

Art and Archaeology majors may also wish to obtain certification to teach in grades preK-12. To earn eligibility for a teaching certificate in Maryland, all program requirements for the major, concentration, and secondary education program must be metSee Education, Secondary Education Certification for more information.

The art education concentration develops broad-based knowledge and skills in the studio arts, including design, drawing, painting, photography, ceramics and printmaking, as well as in digital media and art history. Required courses in photography and digital arts will introduce students to the uses of technology in the arts. Courses in art history provide students with a solid grounding in the history and cultural contexts of the visual arts. An internship (i.e., a student teaching semester) will culminate teacher preparation.
