Semester Calendar

The academic year is comprised of fall, spring, and summer semesters. See Academic Calendar section for specific dates.

 

Fall Semester

(on-ground and online)
  • Sixteen week session beginning at the end of August and ending mid-December. 

Spring Semester

(on-ground and online)
  • Sixteen week session beginning mid January and ending mid-May.

Summer Semesters (on-ground)*

  • Mini-Summer: three-week session beginning mid-May and concluding in late May. 
  • First Summer: four-week session beginning mid-May and concluding in early June.
  • Second Summer: four-week session beginning early June and concluding in early July. 

Summer Semesters (online)*

  • First Summer: seven-week session beginning mid-May and concluding in late June.
  • Second Summer: seven-week session beginning late June and concluding mid-August.

* Students may take only one course in the mini-session and two courses in each regular or online summer sessions.

Academic Breaks & Holidays

Unless noted below, no additional national holidays are observed on the academic calendar. 

Labor Day

Labor day is observed on the first Monday of September. Classes meet on Labor Day. University offices are closed.

Fall Break

Fall break is a four-day weekend  in conjunction with All Saints' Feast Day on November 1. When November 1 is on a Wednesday, the break may be extended to a five-day weekend.

Feast of All Saints

This holy day of obligation is observed on November 1. No classes meet.

Thanksgiving Break

A five-day weekend is observed in conjunction with Thanksgiving break. Break begins on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, and ends Sunday night following Thanksgiving. Classes meet on Tuesday evening, prior to Thanksgiving. Classes resume on Monday morning following Thanksgiving. 

Feast of the Immaculate Conception

Classes or exams are typically scheduled on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, December 8, unless the feast falls on Reading Day. University offices are closed. 

Christmas Break

Christmas break is typically four weeks between the fall semester, which ends mid-December and the spring semester, which begins mid-January.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Martin Luther King, Jr. day is observed on the third Monday of January. No classes meet on this holiday. 

March for Life

The national March for Life is typically scheduled on third Friday in January. No classes meet on this day. Offices remain open.

Spring Break

Spring break is a one-week vacation in mid-March.

Easter Break

Easter break is a four-day weekend, Good Friday through Easter Monday. Evening classes do not meet on Holy Thursday. Evening classes do meet on Easter Monday. 

Memorial Day

Memorial day is observed on the last Monday of May. No classes meet on this holiday.

Juneteenth

Juneteenth is observed on June 19. No classes meet on this holiday.

Independence Day

Independence day is observed on July 4. No classes meet on this holiday. 

Feast of the Assumption

The Feast of the Assumption is a holy day of obligation celebrated on August 15. No on-ground classes are scheduled on this day. Offices are closed this day.
