SPT 2320 SPORT DATA AND RESEARCH
Data and research are critical components of the sport management decision-making process on and off the field. This course provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue both critical and applied inquiries within the sport industry. Students are introduced to basic research methods, tools, and software; study the fundamentals of research design, data collection, and analysis; and learn how data-driven decision making is utilized across all facets of the sport landscape.
Course Outcomes
- Students will be able to:
•Explain the role of data and research within the sport industry. - •Use basic research tools and software.
- •Apply the research process to develop a research question.
- •Understand the importance of data-driven decision making across the various segments of the sport landscape.
- •Critically evaluate the usage of quantitative and qualitative methods to answer a research question.
- •Demonstrate understanding of the basic principles and procedures of the research process.
- •Conceptualize and write an individual research prospectus.
- •Articulate the results of research to both an academic and professional audience.
- •Describe the impact of diversity, equity, and inclusion across the research process, and apply this understanding to data-collection, analysis, and the synthesis of results.
