SOC 3560 GENDER AND CRIME
This course takes an intersectional approach to examining how gendered social structure produces patterns in criminal offending (that is, how women’s and men’s positions within society help us to make sense of gender differences in offending and changes in gender differences over time). Patterns of men’s and women’s victimization, particularly the experiences of marginalized communities, are examined, as are gendered patterns in fear of crime. Criminal justice policies that differentially impact female and male offenders and their families are also addressed, with emphasis on the U.S. context.
