IDS 1300 HUMANITIES IN THE AGE OF PHOTOGRAPHY

This course provides an overview of the Humanities, including literature, music, film, television, and the visual and performing arts, since the advent of photography. Students experience the breadth of the Humanities while also examining how photography was influenced by and how it influenced other artistic and intellectual pursuits. The course’s thematic approach as well as its assignments and exams engage students creatively and analytically.

Course Outcomes

1. Develop and hone skills for analyzing and interpreting humanities texts, including photography, the other visual and performing arts, literature, music, film, and television.
2. Develop an understanding of how photography was influenced by and how it influenced other artistic and intellectual pursuits.
3. Develop interdisciplinary skills including skills in comparing humanities texts that share a common theme.
4. Understand the creative process by engaging humanities texts in a critical and creative manner.
