WHE 1100 MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID FOR NON-CLINICIANS
Mental Health First Aid for Non-Clinicians is designed to instruct individuals how to 1) identify a mental health crisis situation, and 2) assist the person in crisis to get appropriate resources or professional help.

- 1. Recognize common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges.
- 2. Distinguish the difference between typical development and warning signs.
- 3. Apply a 5-step action plan for how to support individuals in both crisis and non-crisis situations.
- 4. Understand the signs, symptoms, and risk factors associated with anxiety, depression, substance use disorders, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including ADHD) and eating disorders.
- 5. Identify protective factors in the community, home, and school environment.
- 6. Refer students and caregivers to local resources.
