EDU 3540 EARLY CHILDHOOD LANGUAGE AND LITERACY DEVELOPMENT BIRTH - 2ND GRADE

This course is a study of language and literacy development for a wide range of children, including dual language learners and those with exceptionalities. Emphasis is placed on research based approaches and developmental theories for language acquisition and the reading and writing processes from birth through second grade. Prevention of reading difficulties is addressed. Students will learn to integrate language and literacy into the curriculum and connect with families in authentic ways. An integrated field experience enables students to analyze and interpret early childhood language and literacy practices.
