French A.B.

French majors are required to study abroad for at least one semester in a program that has been approved by the university and the department. The study abroad semester may be completed at any point before the fall semester of a student's final year at Elon. Additional credits from abroad may be applied to general studies requirements, another major or a minor as appropriate, or used as elective credit for graduation.

A Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in French requires the completion of the Elon Core Curriculum as well as the Major Requirements listed below.

Study Abroad Preparation and Reflection: 4 sh

WLC 3010, WLC 3020, WLC 3030: This is an elective three-part course to prepare for and reflect upon the study abroad experience with a faculty mentor and cohort of other students studying abroad.

Study Abroad Electives: 12 sh

A semester abroad including 12 semester hours taught in French is required of the major. A maximum of 12 semester hours taught abroad in French may count toward the major. Programs and courses abroad must be pre-approved by the Department and the Registrar.

An internship in French is optional but strongly encouraged. Up to 4 semester hours of internship credit taken abroad may count as "Study Abroad Electives" in the French major.  Internship must have pre-approval by a faculty mentor at Elon and by the department.
