Student with a degree in Drama and Theatre Studies, upon graduation should be able to:
GOAL 1: Upon completing the degree requirements for the Bachelor of Arts program in Drama and Theatre Studies, students should be knowledgeable in the discipline.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) related to Goal 1:
1. Have the ability to describe the relationship between theatre and dramatic literature and larger cultural movements such as philosophy, politics, religion and the sciences.
2. Have the ability to identify, define, and critique various theatrical styles, genres, and methodologies.
3. Have the ability to identify and explain the major developments in the history of world theatre and dramatic literature, and explain their influence on theatre today.
4. Have a basic understanding of the spectrum of western professional and amateur theatre practice, including: acting, directing, playwriting, producing, dramaturgy, design and technology.
GOAL 2: Upon completing the degree requirements for the Bachelor of Arts program in Drama and Theatre Studies, students should be competent in the discipline.
SLO related to Goal 2:
5. Have the ability to analyze a script from multiple critical and theoretical perspectives (such as historical, theoretical, literary, or philosophical perspectives).
6. Have the ability to analyze a script from multiple perspectives as an artist (such as from the point of view of an actor, director, playwright, designer, or dramaturg).
7. Have the ability to analyze a performance from multiple perspectives.
8. Have the ability to analyze one’s own experience in a creative process and its product.
9. Have basic competency in technical theatre practice.
GOAL 3: Upon completing the degree requirements for the Bachelor of Arts program in Drama and Theatre Studies, students should be critical thinkers within the discipline and possess the ability to communicate their understanding to a variety of audiences.

10. Have the ability to articulate and defend one’s point of view accurately and logically both orally and in writing.
11. Have the ability to research and write a critical essay using one of the established academic writing styles such as MLA.
