Music Performance A.B.
An audition is required for entrance into this program.
A Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Music Performance requires the completion of the Elon Core Curriculum as well as the Major Requirements listed below.
Major Requirements
Required courses: 30 sh
Students in the Fundamentals of Music (MUS 1300), Materials of Music sequence (MUS 1310, MUS 1320, MUS 2310, and MUS 2320) and Aural Skills sequence (MUS 1315, MUS 1325, MUS 2315, MUS 2325) must earn a C- or better to progress through the next course level.
Choose one of the following: 2-4 sh
In addition, each Music Performance major must complete the following:
(a) applied music lessons, at least one semester at the 4000 level 14 sh
(b) half solo recital at the 3000 level
(c) full solo recital at the 4000 level
(d) ensemble from MUS 1010, MUS 1051, MUS 1030, MUS 1050, and MUS 1020 8 sh
- Vocal majors must choose between MUS 1051 and MUS 1050
- Instrumental majors must choose between MUS 1010, MUS 1030, or MUS 1020
- Piano majors may choose between MUS 1010, MUS 1051, MUS 1030, MUS 1050, or MUS 1020
(e) keyboard proficiency
(f) MUS 0010 Departmental Recital each semester of residency as a Music Performance major
In addition, vocal majors must take MUS 2510 Diction for Singers I and MUS 2511 Diction for Singers II.
